Lending Libraries is something that is getting vaporized day by day in Trivandrum. This is a very good initiative from five College Students to create a web site www.iamabooklover.com to pursue reading.
Five college-going students in the city decided to start an online lending library catering to the need for books within the Trivandrum city limits leading to the launch of the first online library of Trivandrum, promising to make books available from various genres a click away. The site also offers to provide unavailable books in the market at hand within a short time span after a request is made in the site.
The library is run by Arundas H (22) and Shijin S S (23) (both doing chartered accountant articleship), Ambu Senan (23) (doing company secretary course), Reshma S Jain (22) (doing B.Tech last year at SCT Pappanamcode), Remya R (22) (doing MBA from CAMS, Pappanacode). All of them felt the need for books to complete their respective courses and also realised that the needed books are often not available in the market easily. This made them to get together and think for a solution. The solution they came upon was ‘I am a booklover’, the Trivandrum’s first online lending library. Though academic books were the immediate necessity for them, they also decided to cater books of all genres.
A website was made with the help of friends after the decision was made. A room was rented and finance were pooled to buy books. In the beginning, there were only 500 books, all fresh ones. Soon well wishers extended help and now they have more than 2000 books added to their collection.
“We do not aim to make profit. In fact, our charges are just enough to maintain the website and buy new books. Our rents are usually 10% to 15% of the cover price which is nominal. We have books on literature, business, history, fiction, non-fiction and others,” said Arundas H.
If you are interested in becoming a member, just log on to www.iamabooklover.com. The books will be delivered at your doorsteps between 4pm to 8pm in the evening.
