The restriction on the entry of tourists to the upper sanctorum of Ponmudi hill station will be lifted from Monday, Dec 2nd 2013.
The Forest Department had banned tourists from visiting there following the death of a youth who was struck by lightning. “The decision to ban the entry of tourists to the upper sanctorum was taken due to the tragic incident. Now the atmosphere has cleared and the tourists will be allowed to enter there from Monday onwards,” district forest officer T Uma said.
The 20-year-old tourist, hailing from Varkala, was killed after being struck by lightning at Ponmudi last Sunday. Two others, the friends of the deceased, suffered minor injuries in the incident.
